Richard Calderon:
In December 2008, he retired as Captain from the San Jose Police
Department after over 30 years of service. In January 2009, he became
the Chief of Police of the 9 officer police force in Gustine and after
approximately eight months the city bought out the last four months of

Martin Monica:
In 2000, Martin Monica ran unsuccessfully for City of Santa Clara
Chief of Police. In 2002, he served as the City of Palier Chief of
Police for about 6 months. In 2004, he ran unsuccessfully for North
Evergreen’s Mount Pleasant Elementary School District. In 2005, Martin
Monica was a candidate for the East Palo Alto Chief of Police. In
2007, he filed papers to run for the 22nd Assembly District. For more

Jose Salcido:
In 1998, Jose Salcido ran unsuccessfully for Sheriff (he was
eliminated in the June primary election). And for years he kept
himself in the news. Regarding Jose Salcido’s character and integrity,

St. San Jose, Ca. Compare his declaration to his deposition. A
transcript of his videotaped deposition was prepared by Bell & Myers

Laurie Smith (incumbent):
Laurie Smith was elected on November 3, 1998, in a run off election,
as there were five candidates in the June primary election. Sheriff
Smith took office on December 15, 1998 and ran unopposed in 2002 and
2006. Her third consecutive four year term ends December 2010, at
which time she will be the longest serving Sheriff in Santa Clara
County history. In March 2010, Sheriff Smith was endorsed by the
